Jeans are important to one’s wardrobe. They can so versatile that anyone can where them and style them on their own, maybe dressed up or dressed down. However, they may come a time that your favorite jeans will fail you and tire out. Here are some ways to turn your jeans into something new.
1. Pocket Purse
Here you would only need the pockets of your jeans. Measure 1” around the edge of the back pockets and cut it out. Place the back pockets in a way that they are facing each other. Sew them together and turn them right side out. This will make the pockets appear outside the purse. Add a strap and there you go.
2. Lunch Sack
Below the booty of your jeans, you will see the upper part of the leg. Cut this out along with the one right above the knees. On the lower part of your jeans leg, cut a circle larger than the opening. This should be about ¾”. Turn the upper leg part that you have cut inside out and sew the circle into it. After that, turn the sack right-side out and fold half an inch of the top and sew it. Put a drawstring on that area and add a strap. Viola! Your jeans are now a lunch sack.
3. Booty Bag
A low rise jean makes a smaller bag while a high rise one makes a larger. The top part of the jeans is the one you are going to use, so cut the legs off. Cut through and straight across the crotch. Leave an edge to glue or sew the bottom close but first, turn the jeans inside out. Make handles out of the inside seams of your jeans pant legs. Decorate the outside of the bag with beads and other embellishments. Cloth can also be sewn as lining for an edgier look. Velcro is also an option; add this to make your bag close. This booty bag is best for light weight items and necessities.
4. Quilt
Personalize your quilt and use your old jeans for different shades. This will definitely make a patchwork with attitude. Measure and cut squares out of your jeans and sew them together. Add lining and backing to secure it. For an edgier quilt, leave on details like zippers, buttons, pockets or belt loops. Add some fun with embellishments and there you go.
No matter which way you would choose to do, your favorite jeans will still be with you. Be creative as you can be. Unleash your inner artisan. You never know, you might create something beautiful and at the same time, useful.
